Ranger Guide (1-45) / Submitted by Toramund Stormbane
|
Comments: I would like to say before I begin that Ranger's are solely meant for grouping, we can only solo if the MoB is about 12 lvls below us or we completely overpower it. Once you reach high lvls you might be able to solo a little bit, but not nearly as efficient as you would need to. I will mention everything you will probably need to know about a Ranger and how to survive while playing one. Also, when playing feel free to upgrade your equipment and weapons past what I may suggest if you feel the need to.

Levels 1-4 (GFay Newbie Area) |
When you first log on your newly created Ranger you will pop onto a platform in the woodelf city known as Kelethin, this city is located high in trees so be careful when wandering around. The very first thing you want to do is click on your PERSONA button and equip your sword and DESTROY the Book of Order and Discord. Once you have done this, the next step is finding your guild. the Wood Elf Ranger Guild is called "Faydarks Champions". If this is your first time in Kelethin it may be difficult to find so i suggest getting a map although most maps of Kelethin are pretty funky. Once you have found the guild go to the back room and talk to any of the three wood elves standing here. Well, right click I should say, and begin your training. Since you dont get spells until lvl 9 you don't need to waste points in Channeling or Alteration as many otehr classes do. Start off by putting all 5 points into 1HSlashing, after this you can head out into the newbie area to start fighting.
You can go down either the PoD lift or the "Newbie" Lift, both of them will take you to the same general area. Both lifts also have 2 and sometimes 3 guards at them, remember this! This will save your life many times if you do, when you get into trouble run to them. When you first start off at level one only aim for bats, jsut bats. You'll ding 2 soon enough with this and then start killing bats, wolves, and maybe a wasp or two, be careful with the wasps though becase they swarm and can be very dangerous. Another danger of this fighting area is the random Orc Pawn that wanders by, he can easily kill you until you are lvl 3 or 4, so I would suggest steering clear of any of these that you see for now. Keep this up until you are lvl 3.
Alright, so you're lvl 3 huh? Well it ain't over yet! Now you should be able to start killing 3 or 4 wasps at a time, MAYBE an Orc Pawn and quite possibly the widow hatchlings that pop sometimes. Just keep killing anything in your path until you hit lvl 4.
MONEY & EQUIP. Sell everything that drops, batwings, wasp wings, wolf pelts, etc. EVERYTHING!

Levels 4-8 (Orc Hill) |
Ok, now you're lvl 4 and you're wondering what to do next eh? Well, at this point you can either sit in the newbie area and fight till you are 5, or you can head over to Orc Hill. To get here you need to find the "Orc" Lift, or you can find the PoD lift and (when facing the lift, as if you are going to enter the city) turn straight to the right and run until you find the lift. Orc Hill can be very dangerous at lvl 4 so be careful, if you get into any trouble or feel the need to run, don't wait for your group leader to tell you to.
Oh hey, I said group didn't I? Well as I said in the comment Ranger's are solely meant for groups. When you reach the lift, either /ooc or /shout Level 4 Ranger looking for a group on Orc Hill! You will probably need a guide to the actual "hill" itself so ask for one, don't go barreling out into the woods. Once you get a group it's pretty self explanatory what you need to do.
Once you get to about lvl 7 you can start grouping at the Crushbone Entrance, this is a very dangerous place to be alone at until about lvl 11 or so. You can stay here until about lvl 9 if you wish, but I'm only telling you to stay until you are 8 :). NEXT!!
MONEY & EQUIP. Orcs drop Rusty Weaps and sometimes cloth armor. Out of all the weapons they drop, keep a 1HS, 2HS, 1HB, 2HB and a Piercer. Out of all the armor, keep pieces you can wear, and any you get two of... SELL THEM, that includes weapons too :)

Levels 8-10 (Bandit Camp) |
Well, now you're lvl 8, time to move on... Now you get to adventure a wee bit. You have to find the Bandit Camp of GFay, it isn't really that hard. any map of GFay should have the camp on it. Once at this camp you'll see 3 tents with 3 female Wood Elves or Half Elves under them, be careful, they are KOS! When you first start off you may want a partener, which I suggest you do. (Uh, Oh... Groupage!) This is the most dangerous camp you should have taken part in so far, because there are no guards anywhere near here. You will most likely die here if you are not extremely careful.
-OR-
You might try venturing a little bit, you can go to the Northern Desert of Ro and try out Sand Scarabs here. If you can kill them 8, cool, if not try to get lvl 9 and try again. these are VERY nice exp up until about 11 or 12. The only things you really have to be afraid of are wandering pumas and shriveled mummies. The pumas will be a hassle until 9 or so, but the mummies will do you in most of the time until you are 11 most likely.
MONEY & EQUIP. (Bandit Camp) Rusty Weapons, decent money, and the occasional bag or box. -- (Nro) Scarab loots (carapaces, legs, etc.), loot from anything else you might kill :).

Levels 10-13 or 14 (North Ro, Dervs) |
Ok, now is the time that you really must travel, if you are still in gfay and have yet to leave, then I'll tell you how to get to Nro. First off get to Felwithe, shouldn't be that hard to do. Once there follow the short path in front of the city out until you get to the T that splits to the right and left. Go left, not right, right will take you back to Kelethin. Follow the path left, you will eventually come to another T, this time it goes straight or left, go straight, left is LFay. Follow this path soon you will hit the Wizard Spires. Keep going, The path is windy and you'll hit a couple more T's, but I'm not going to tell you how to get all the way to Butcherblock :), where would the adventure be? Now you're in Butcherblock Mountains, correct? Good, go straight out from the end of the small cavern you zone into, find the path, follow it past a couple small buildings with dwarves in them. Eventually you'll get to another house, this time it has two dwarven guards standing next to it. This is what is known as The Crossroads. Here, the path keeps going straight and breaks off to the right. Follow it to the right. Just keep following the path from here. You'll see some more houses, and then you'll get to the grand city of Kaladim. Keep going past the city on the path, soon you'll get to the Docks. Once here go on the dock farthest to the right, go to the end of it, there should be a female Dwarf standing there. Sit here until the boat arrives. Once on the boat sit close to the middle of the boat, if you fall off you are in trouble. You're going to hit another dock, DO NOT get off at this one, stay on the boat. The boat will leave, after a while it will zone into East Freeport. YAY! You are now on a different continent. Antonica.
Ok, now find your way to the "gate". It's near an Inn and past the PoD, that's all I'm going to say :). Keep running way out past the gate and you'll zone into North Ro, this is your final destination! Once you zone in start /ooc'ing for a Derv Group, include your class and lvl. Get a group at one of these camps and stay there until 13ish. Breaking these camps can sometimes be very tough, so don't be surprised if you die from time to time. Beware of Derv 1, as its called, an NPC named Dorn B'Dynn spawns here, he WILL kill you, and most likely your entire party.
MONEY & EQUIP. Bronze weapons, Dervish Cutthroat Rings, random gems, sometimes a couple pp in money on the corpses. You should upgrade your weapons from the rusty ones to these if you're still using them :).
