Blizzard's Class Description:
"Azeroth is home to a wide variety of beasts. From the new world of Lordaeron to the old world of Kalimdor, all manner of creatures can be found. Some are friendly, some are ferocious and aggressive - yet they all have one thing in common. Each creature shares a special connection with Hunters. Hunters track, tame and slay all manner of animals and beasts found in the wilds. Whether they rely on bows or firearms, Hunters consider their weapons and pets to be their only true friends." Blizzard
Shadows Edge Class Description:
Long distance and pet class.
What we know so far about Pets
Blizzard announced in the Blizzard Mailbag - Insider #17 that Hunters can tame any creature in the beast category. Dragons are not part of that category. The Hunter is the master of pets and can control spiders and tigers among other beasts. All pets level up with their master and retains his name and comes when called. A Hunter can only tame a new pet when he permanently abandons his current pet. The pet can only level to 90% of the Hunter's current skill level.
Obviously, as the Hunter gains experience he will need to upgrade his pet to a higher level. This will be difficult for the hunter who has spent so much time training his pet. But a new more powerful pet will be required at higher levels. We also know that when the hunter dies the pet dies. We can assume that the pet will me resurrected with the Hunter as well.
Class Skills
As you would expect, the character class skills are geared towards that of roaming hunter. A hunter must be able to survive in the wilderness and take on any creature that may be lurking around the corner. The Hunter is equipped with a mix of defensive, melee and ranged class skills which includes firearm skills under 'Guns/bows'. The taming is one area of this class players will no doubt enjoy and animal mastery will play a key role in the development of the Hunter. The class skills we have seen Hunters with are:
- Axe
