Frequently Asked Questions about the Shadows Edge Guild

FAQ for Feb. 17, 2004

Question: What is the difference between a New Member and a Member on the current guild roster?

Answer: The founders of Shadows Edge has played with many people over the years. Those members with whom we have existing relationships with are listed in the Members Rank. These individuals have already met or exceeded the Senior Member requirements in the past, therefore, when the game starts this group will be called Senior Members.

Question: How do we become a leader?

Answer: The leader rank is designed for people who step up to the plate and are willing to form groups and lead leveling groups and do quests runs. This is available to each guild member. You just need to be willing to take an active roll and take on the responsibility of a group leader. Each day our guild members will want to join a group and level their character or do quests. We are looking for those who are willing to take charge and help fellow guild members accomplish these tasks. It is up to you to decide to be a leader or a follower.

Question: Will we have too many chiefs and not enough followers?

Answer: We hope to have many guild members who have leadership talents. Since our guild attracts mature players, we tend to recruit older players who have real life management experience. It would be wonderful to have several individuals with this kind of talent. A good manager knows that, leading isn't about power. It is about knowledge, preparation, organization, committment and many other critical elements. Good leaders are generally the best followers. When I am in a raid and someone else is leading, I support the leader and his decisions. Even though I might run it different or disagree with their strategy, the other person is leading and deserves his chance to learn and improve his skill as a leader. So regardless of how many leaders we have, we will each take turns leading and when we are not leading we will be the best support we can to the person who is leading.

FAQ for Feb. 16, 2004

Question: Are you an Alliance or Horde Guild?

Answer: Alliance

Question: Will Shadows Edge stick to its purpose of being a guild for mature players?

Answer: Most definitely. Maturity is measured by the way a player"acts" while playing the game. Showing respect of other players, having patience with their fellow guild mates and understanding that real life is more important than the game, are ways that a player shows their maturity. Having a short temper, hording loot, getting upset because they died, or blaming others for problems in the game are signs of immaturity.

Question: How big of a guild will Shadows Edge be?

Answer: Large enough to be able to support all types of game needs such as crafting, leveling, dungeon crawls, PVP, and any other activity that the guid wants to participate in. Our size and goals are all focused to support end game characters and guild activities.

Question: Have you (Ignis or Sintel) created any type of initiation process or method by which you choose or deny membership to the guild? Or will it be a trial and error deal once we actually start playing the game?

Answer: We discussed this issue at some length and decided to have an open-enrollment policy.

Let me give you a little background. About a year ago we starting looking for a guild to join. We read a lot of charters and I (Ignis) actually joined a guild. But the acceptance process was frustrating and didn't make much sense. So, Ignis said farwell and good luck to the guild and decided to start his own.

In our minds, there is not a good way to determine if a person fits the guild without playing the game with them. Therefore, we decided to not have a screening process. Our initial rank is New Member and everyone who wants to join the guild, is welcome. The best way to learn about people is to discuss things on the boards, play the game, and give each member a chance to build their reputation by the way they interact with other guild members. During this process you will also have the chance to measure Shadows Edge and see if we are a good fit for you. If either of us come to the conclusion that Shadows Edge is not the guild for you, we would hope that you are mature enough to find a new guild and leave on good terms. If you need help with that decision, we will ask you to find another guild. Asking someone to leave the guild will not be taken lightly and will be rare. We will always discuss the matter with you before taking action and treat each other as mature adults.

Question: How will you deal with problems in the guild?

Answer: We want Shadows Edge to be a Safe Haven. We have members who pre-teen age and some of us are old men. It is important to protect the rights of every member of the guild. Therefore, we have created a "probation rank". This rank will be used to turn off guild chat. If we find that someone is being abusive or gets out of control, we will change their rank to keep the problem out of guild chat. We will then open a personal chat session with that person to deal with the problem. This is an extreme case, but unfortunately there are times when people just can't control their anger and we need to take control of the situation to protect all guild members from an abusive or degrading situation. Anyone who abuses the game EULA (end user license agreement) which requires a player to not use abusive language, name calling, griefing, belittling others by means of race, religion, age, sexual preference, or marital status. If you do these things, you will immediately be put on probation and your chat rights will be removed. If it continues, we would report the incident to Blizzard and they would decide if you should loose your account. I don't see this ever happening, but we might as well be up front with you where we will draw the line.

Question: Is this a casual players guild, or is it one that will be striving to do all in the game with the guild?

Answer: Shadows Edge's goals are focused on end-game activities. It is our goal to enhance our gaming experience and enjoy all that WoW has to offer. This means running through most of the quests, having fun with PVP, doing dungeon crawls and farming good loot.

As a large guild there should always be people with similar playing styles that you can group with and have fun. There will also be players who play 24x7 and people who play about 10-20 hours a week. As a guild, the leaders will be providing scheduled events for all types of players. For example, Sintel may run quests on tuesday and Ignis will run a dungeon crawl on thursday. We will be looking for other guild members to take the Leaders Rank and run xp groups and other activities on the other nights. We will also have crafters that just craft most of the time. As a guild we will support them by hunting ingredients that they need while we level and do quests. Our desire is to have organized activities at least 3-4 times per week and fill in the rest with leveling and running quests. This should create an environment that supports all types of gaming styles.
